Rest in Peace

by Yi Tian and Ke Dong

Inspired by Joel Sternfeld’s work, my photobook explores the duality of local spaces which are reputed to be haunted, but have the potential for idyllic beauty. To me, these photographs feel as though they’re exploring a utopian reality where vengeful spirits have found peace and the deceased may finally rest.

Interestingly, most of these locations are social spaces, like public transport stations, schools, and museums, which creates a disjunct between their mundane appearances and supernatural lore -- a contradiction that continues to fascinate me. Furthermore, many of these haunted locations have been redeveloped or exhumed, begging the question: if the graveyard is exhumed, do its ghosts remain?

QUEER TALES II

by Ke Dong

This year has been a pivotal one for the queer community in Singapore: the landmark repeal of 377A has brought forth supportive voices from both politicians and the public, but it has also revealed much of the entrenched homophobia and bigotry in our society. It remains essential that Singaporeans are reminded that laws such as these affect real lives, rather than a silent, invisible population.

To that end, Queer Tales II is a revival of my 2018 project Queer Tales, which had originally featured in Singapore’s first-ever Queer Zine Festival. The anthology aims to elevate queer voices that go unnoticed in mainstream storytelling; beginning with an open call for LGBTQ+ youth narratives across Singapore, I’ve combined these stories with visual works to create an authentic reflection of the diverse perspectives amongst queer youth in Singapore today.

Van Ness Pet Hospital's 2021 Spring Catalogue

by Melo

A visual extension of Philip K. Dick’s ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ told through the lens of Van Ness Pet Hospital’s 2021 Spring Catalogue.

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic future where animal life had mostly been wiped out due to a nuclear war, leading people to rely on androids as pet animal substitutes.

The catalogue expands on the hospital Van Ness from his story world, where people could buy various androids designed to resemble animals. Collaborating with a couple of veterinary science students, each animinoid’s capabilities and traits were described and illustrated as marketing material for 2021, but designed in the 60s.

it's my void deck and i'll meow if i want to

by Kuang Shane Qi

Inspired by the author’s interactions and adventures with her neighbourhood cats, it's my void deck and i'll meow if i want to explores alternate ways of seeing ubiquitous HDB estates. While void decks may be seen in human-centric terms as free space, they are also home to the feline friends who live there. This zine documents the stories the void deck has witnessed, ranging from the Emotional Highs and Lows of Inter-Feline Drama to bonus appearances from their human caregivers.

catalogue is a ten page zine of 3d rendered objects, acting as a visual repository for memory and reversing the flattening of digital documentation.

the bug collector

by Cheng Hao

The bug collector is an eight-page-lino-cut print zine inspired by a song of the same name by Haley Heynderickx which gives life to its various characters, experimenting with formats of text and form.

thinkink

by Yuki

Thinking beyond and reading between the lines are often required in our society full of sarcasm and satires. However, do we think so much it becomes a kink? Do you take mental shortcuts to such an extent that everytime you see a banana, d*** “pings” in your head? thinkink hopes to stimulate thinking yet at the same time warn viewers about the potential consequences of thinking too hard or too much.

A four-chapter zine, my work deals with the (fe)male gaze in media, introspection, heuristics and mortality.
